National Bike Registry now powered by BoomerangIt
Bicycle industry reaps benefits of proprietary registration technology now favored by big brands in diverse product areas
San Leandro, Calif. (Feb. 5,
2002) -- The National Bike Registry (NBR), a national registration system that
returns lost and stolen bicycles to their rightful owners, is now powered by
the proprietary registration technology of BoomerangIt, Inc., a software development company in San Leandro, Calif.
In operation since 1984, NBR was purchased by BoomerangIt, Inc. in
1999. It has since become a leader in
the bike security industry; registering thousands of bikes and scooters,
developing relationships with more than 16,000 law enforcement agencies and
leading bike manufacturers, Including Diamondback, Giant, Kryptonite, Raleigh
and Razor, as well as maintaining a presence in more than 3,000 retail stores
nationwide.
While NBR registers bikes and scooters, the BoomerangIt brand now expands on that service to include any type
of personal property -- everything from keys to luggage to digital cameras and
more.
BoomerangIt’s mission is to maximize the use of current technology to
provide an Internet-accessible asset protection service. BoomerangIt employs proprietary, patent-pending technology, a Sun
Solaris 5.7/Oracle 8i platform in a unique database registry that identifies
and can track the genealogy of a product from its manufacture through its
entire lifecycle.
BoomerangIt offers its services
to OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) as a product enhancement, enabling
them to protect the customer’s goods even after
the sale is complete and thereby achieve a higher level of customer
loyalty.
Major brands in the electronics
and luggage industries are already on board with BoomerangIt, including Palm,
Toshiba, Pioneer, Memorex, London Fog, Eagle Creek and High Sierra. Meanwhile, bike industry manufacturers such
as Diamondback, Giant, Kryptonite, Raleigh and Razor are working with NBR.
“Since using BoomerangIt
service as an incentive, some of our clients have more
than doubled their product registration rates,” said Rob Kaplan, NBR
spokesperson. “Manufacturers in a variety of product niches are discovering
that BoomerangIt provides many value-added benefits ”
