National Bike Registry initiates OEM Program to bring Value to Bike Manufacturers, Retailers and their customers.
New program offers revenue incentives to OEMs and retailers and helps customers protect their bikes.

Emeryville, CA, November 6 – National Bike Registry (NBR), an Internet-based national registration system that returns lost and stolen bicycles to their rightful owners, has launched a new OEM program that benefits bike manufacturers and retailers by providing additional revenue and encouraging customer loyalty. Under the agreement, bike companies are provided with custom-made registration hangtags to be installed at the point of manufacture, which are accessible to customers upon purchasing a bicycle at a bike retailer. When a registration is purchased, NBR allows the retailer and manufacturer to share over half of the revenue. NBR’s fees begin at $10.00 for a ten year bike registration.
This new OEM program comes 18 months after Centric Media took ownership of the 16-year old NBR, in May 1999. NBR has existing partnerships with leading bike and bike security manufacturers including Mongoose® and Kryptonite® and, under Centric Media, has increased its presence in retail stores across the U.S. from 300 to 3400.
“NBR is pleased to have such strong relationships with bike manufacturers and retailers, and this new OEM program is part of our strategy for continuing growth in these areas,” said Rob Kaplan, director of sales and marketing for NBR. “We know that this is the best avenue for reaching our target audience and in doing so, we are helping manufacturers and retailers show their customers that they care about their bikes - even after the sale is made.”
NBR also provides a free web-affiliate link enabling customers to register their bikes online. NBR tracks these registrations and contributes a significant percentage of fees directly to the bike manufacturer. Bike customers are also eligible for a 6-month online free trial, driving traffic to the bike company’s web site as well as encouraging people to register with the OEM’s warranty program.
Studies reveal that law enforcement agencies actually recover nearly 50 percent of all lost or stolen bicycles, yet are unable to return more than five percent of those bike to their owners due to lack of ownership information. Since a bike is stolen in the U.S. every 1.4 minutes, bike registration on a national, police accessible database is as critical as ever. Even when bikes are registered locally, if they are taken across county and state lines, police are unable access owner information. NBR partners with law enforcement agencies nationwide and allows all police departments free, direct access to its database.
